I began this blog many years ago to share our family adventures with family. I recently decided to begin blogging again as a way to share and document our family travels. I originally did one post on a new site, but then a friend (who is much smarter than I am in these matters) mentioned how much better the old blog name was. So I decided I could keep this space, and not worry about the years it didn’t get any love. Thanks for visiting!
Hello! And welcome to our blog celebrating our travel adventures and sharing what we learn about our destinations so you can know what we did that worked, and what we can help you do better!
We are a family of five, including three active boys, age 6, 9 and 11. When we are home we are camp directors for a camp and retreat center in coastal southwest Washington. Our boys do school thorough our state’s accredited Alternative Learning Environment. That’s big words for that we do school at home under the direction of a teacher and with state accredited curriculum. We made that move 3 years ago, because we found that the public school schedule didn’t work well with our summer camp job schedule for allowing us to travel and adventure together. We love it (most days!), and it allows us to pick up and go pretty much any time our job lets us.
Financially we prioritize travel and family time, while also trying to save for the future. Working as non-profit directors doesn’t mean there’s a lot of money coming in, so usually we’re sharing less expensive destinations and solutions to saving money on our trips. No five star restaurants for this crowd!
Up until now the majority of our travel has been in the US, but as our kids get older we have started planning some bigger excursions. We hope to take you along on all of them! We firmly believe that having kids does NOT mean you have to stop feeding the travel bug. We started traveling early (each of our kids were on a cross-country flight by 6 weeks of age) and have never found that they slow us down more than we would normally go. We may spend more times checking out playgrounds than we would have pre-kid, but we also get to see the world through their eyes, which is so much fun!
We are glad you are here, and hope you’ll share your ideas with us as we go along. Happy trails!
